Road construction along Medical Campus to begin

A road- and bridge-construction project that will impact WUSTL, and particularly its medical center, is scheduled to begin in the next few days. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2014.

Apply to become a Clinton Global Initiative University volunteer

Students can apply to be a volunteer during the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U), to be held April 5-7 at WUSTL. Volunteer roles include: serving as on-campus hosts and ushers; assisting with the production and logistics of the event; helping CGI staff with media; and supporting CGI’s program staff.

New course embeds students with startup companies

WUSTL’s business, engineering and law schools are collaborating on a new course in 2013 that will embed students in the center of a thriving entrepreneur community. The students will trade their campus classroom for working space at T-ReX, a new St. Louis tech incubator that offers startup companies affordable offices in the historic Railway Exchange Building.

Room reservation website improved

Visitors to reserveaspace.wustl.edu, the room reservation website managed by the Danforth University Center & Event Management Office, recently found an expanded and improved way to reserve spaces, including pooled classrooms, in many campus buildings. Training sessions are scheduled to orient users to the site.

‘A View From the Federal Circuit: A Conversation With Chief Judge Randall R. Rader’ Friday

The Hon. Randall R. Rader, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, will offer his perspectives on the court Friday, Jan. 18. The presentation, including a panel discussion with members of local bar associations, takes place from 3-4:15 p.m. in Anheuser-Busch Hall.  A reception will follow.

Faculty Achievement Award nominations sought

Nominations are being accepted for WUSTL’s annual Faculty Achievement Awards, known as the Arthur Holly Compton Faculty Achievement Award and the Carl and Gerty Cori Faculty Achievement Award. The Compton Award is given to a distinguished member of the faculty from one of the six Danforth Campus schools and the Cori Award to a faculty member from the School of Medicine. The submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 15.

Final CGI U application workshop set for Thursday

The final application workshop for students interested in the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is slated for 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in Danforth University Center, Room 234. Up to 200 WUSTL students will be selected to participate in CGI U, which will be held April 5-7 on campus. 

Social Change Grants available for summer projects

The Community Service Office has announced the availability of more than $42,000 for Social Change Grant projects in summer 2013. Students are invited to build proposals for full- or part-time summer work developing and implementing an innovative community project.

Why is it called Washington University? Find out Sunday

“Why Is It Called Washington University?” a presentation and book signing with Candace O’Connor, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the AT&T Foundation Multipurpose Room at the Missouri History Museum, 5700 Lindell Blvd.
